The Graveyard The graveyard is the most common setting in the book. This is where Nobody or "Bod" learns how to read, write, and understand that the world outside of the graveyard is more dangerous than he ever knew because of the man who killed his family. This is the sanctuary in which Bod lives, eats, and is taught anything the dead know. The Graveyard Book is an example of Gothic literature. Popular in the 18th and 19th centuries, Gothic literature uses darkness and horror to heighten romance and adventure.
